The Malaysian Green Dwarf is a well-known early-bearing coconut variety. It was developed in Malaysia and is now widely cultivated across India.
Tree Characteristics
- The tree is short in height (dwarf variety).
- It starts bearing fruits in approximately 2.5 years.
- Leaves are green, long, and feather-shaped.
- The tree grows upright and is easy to maintain.
Fruit Characteristics
- The fruits are green in color.
- Coconut water is sweet, clear, and nutritious.
- This variety is mainly preferred for drinking coconut water.
- The kernel (copra) is slightly thinner but very tasty.
Yield Capacity
- One tree produces approximately 100 to 250 coconuts per year.
- With proper care, the yield can increase further.
- Fruits are available throughout the year.
Climate and Soil Requirements
- Warm and humid climate is ideal.
- Well-drained sandy or loamy soil is suitable.
- Proper water drainage is very important.
Planting and Spacing
- Maintain approximately 14 × 14 feet spacing between two trees.
- Dig a pit of 1 × 1 × 1 meter and fill it with a mixture of farmyard manure, soil, and sand.
- Planting can be done throughout the year.
